The library and community space

A place to bring books to life

Your new library and community space will have a bright, modern, and flexible design with total floor area of 1078 sqm across the ground floor on a larger footprint with 100% of the space accessible.

The library will have a floorspace of 675 sqm with all aspects of the current facility upgraded including children’s library, reference library and meeting spaces.

New amenities will include a sensory wall, accessible toilets, and baby changing facilities to better meet the needs of users. A new 100 sqm public courtyard will provide space for outdoor learning, library groups and community activities where we can bring books to life.

Our proposals have been shaped by feedback from the library service, library users, tenants, and planners throughout the design process to ensure we provide a facility that represents the community’s needs now and into the future.

This approach aligns with Essex County Council’s commitment to protect libraries and ensure they are fit for purpose in the future. We believe this proposal represents best financial and amenity value for the benefit of Loughton residents.
